That cover I just posted of Claudia Schiffer by Mario Testino reminded me of one of my favorite photography quotes by one of my favorite fashion photographers:
“Fashion photography is basically photography of a woman. Consequently, a woman as seductress sells through flirtation and titillation. Physical sex is not necessary, the promise will do. I believe sensuality is the bond. For me a good fashion photograph makes a promise it can never keep. By the sheer fact of being printed it appears to be an attainable truth, when in fact it is an individual projection of a photographer. It also unique in that it requires not only a talent in photography, but also a fashion sense.”
